My construction and roofing career began when I was 12 years old, working during the summers, on the roofing crew for my father’s construction company. I also worked my way through college doing roofing.

After college, I began my career path as a Real Estate Agent for FC Tucker in 1994. In 1999, I was offered a position with J&T Management, Inc., managing and selling bank owned properties for various banks and asset management firms.

In 2002, I was presented with the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream and become a full-time Firefighter for the City of Fishers. The owner of J&T Management was generous enough to set up a virtual office so I could continue to perform the functions of that job remotely.

In the mid 1990’s through the mid 2000’s, I ventured into flipping houses.

With my construction knowledge and experience, in 2003, I decided to began construction on a home for my family that I personally designed. Working on our dream home on most of my days off from the fire department, it took me 9 months to complete. The home is located at 13121 Callaway Court, in the Gray Eagle subdivision, in Fishers, and is still one of the nicest homes in its price range in Central Indiana.

In 1998, I began Ryan Banning Construction, doing primarily residential remodel projects. As one learns in the construction industry, in late 2007, having just completed a flip, where an enormous amount of unforeseen costs had come up, I decided building was a better option because there are fewer unknowns. A spec home I was building was about 75% complete when the market crashed in 2008. Fortunately, I had personally done a significant amount of the construction with my own hands and was thankfully, not upside-down in the project. Unfortunately, considering the amount of capital and hours I had put into the project, it turned out to be a horrible investment.

My last venture is what brought me to where I am today and to specialize in roofing. 

While in business as Ryan Banning Construction, we completed numerous roofing jobs. In time, I learned it can be difficult and frustrating to manage large, complex construction projects, when I had to be gone for 24 hours every 3 days, while working at the fire department. Over time, Ryan Banning Construction became Ryan Banning Construction dba 317ROOF.

In 2019, I was involved in a training accident while at the fire department, and after 2 orthopedic surgeries, my surgeon informed me that he was not comfortable clearing me to return to firefighting duties.  Sadly, after 18 years as a Fishers Firefighter, and with having no plans of leaving anytime soon, I was forced to take an early retirement. Thus, 317ROOF, LLC was formed and the decision was made for this to be my sole, full-time job.  I consider myself very blessed, because not only have I been able to grow the business more than 40% per year since, but I have also had the same crew since 2014 and experienced none of the labor shortage and turnover issues so many businesses have realized over the past few years.
